There is a seemingly endless number of tasks that come with homeownership. Living in the northern United States, you know that this number is made up in large part of tasks related to preparing your property for cold weather. If you don’t already have a lengthy to-do list, here are a few common things you might add to it.

Sub-zero temperatures that fluctuate throughout the winter can wreak tremendous havoc on anything with the slightest bit of moisture in it. Especially on the exterior of your property, look around for water sources like water spigots or sprinkler heads, and make sure they’re not leaky. Make sure porous materials like wood are adequately painted and/or sealed. Check the trees on your property to make sure that none of their limbs or the entire tree are susceptible to being overcome by the weight of heavy snow. Store or cover any exterior furniture or lawn equipment.
